Hi!
Another week another interview and this time around we goto synthpop/electro vein. Radiomun hails from Russia and have released so far 2 albums on ScentAir label, which seems to put out only quality releases. New band for me totally, but lately been discovering new bands quite a lot thanks to their label :) As for Radiomun, I listened to their songs on soundcloud and they are really good! Very international and beautiful ones. Now that I'm writing this, Another Me is playing. Somehow this song just appealed to me right away when I heard it first time. But onto the interview!
How did RadioMun get started?
Radiomun as a band started in the end of 2013. There were first single "Now" and full-length album "Tot on the Mun" a bit later in the Summer 2014. First album was rather experimental, unique record, that was necessary for Radiomun's birth. Low tempo, ambient, trip-hop all mixed in one cup flavored with vocals. So now the band is on their way to release the second LP. No title or any specific information for you to tell yet, but it's gonna be easier for listening...we guess
You hail from Russia, how is the scene over there?
Our home town is Kaliningrad which is the most western point of big Russia. Geografically we are much closer to European scene but several words about Russian music electro scene can be said: pop music is on the top, rock music is somewhere between and electronic genres (not talking about club culture) is less needed. Small gigs, rare events. It's not enough.
Who are the people behind RadioMun?
Previously you could find a single person dj-ing having nickname Radiomun. While another one had been a part of WANT/ed band for few years.
All that time we knew each other and had some collaboration moments though. After little restructure within WANT/ed Evgeniy and Aleksandr joined to create Radiomun as a band.
You sing in English, was your aim in the beginning to make it to the international market?
Radiomun lyrics is in English. That was defined from the very beginning, or even earlier. We have to deal with English as a worldwide spread language, universal. We sing about deep experience, that's not just a few clap-step words and we'd like it to be understood. Besides English is quite melodical.
Who or which bands inspired you to make music?
Some people who are far from such things as synth or electro compare us to Depeche Mode. It's too funny and have nothing to do with it. Of course they are classics for us as well. Having a bit more closer look you'll see - Radiomun is absolutely different creature. Inspirations were taken from everywhere and very large amount of music, and it's still being taken.
Any plans for the future you'd like to share with us?
As it was said before the next Radiomun record is coming, new tracks are getting ready. Maybe this Summer or Autumn. By the way, why haven't you called us to play a gig yet? )
I gotta say, that is a good question by Radiomun, since the band is excellent! And as always, don't just take my word for it, check it yourself on Radiomun Facebook page, Soundcloud and Youtube channel
